PDO Thread Lifts
PDO Threads
11/8/21
PDO threads have significantly evolved over the past 10 years and have now become a routine part of our aesthetic practice at Woodford Medical. All thread treatments are carried out by Dr Patterson who has trained in South Korea with some of the world’s leading exponents of thread treatments. He is a recognised expert in the field of PDO thread insertion.
“It was clear to me that threads offered an innovative, effective way to lift and tighten sagging skin but it was equally important that I learnt from the very best and that we selected the best threads currently available. We use only NFinders PDO threads that are manufactured in South Korea, a company recognised as the leading provider of PDO threads in the world.”
In 2018 Dr Patterson was appointed as the Key Opinion leader for NFinders in Europe and has trained a large number of the U.K. medical practitioners that currently use NFinders threads.
PDO threads are an important treatment option alongside Botox, Juvederm facial fillers and Profhilo. Threads are particularly useful when the skin requires lifting or tightening and act by both mechanically supporting the tissue and by also inducing a fibrous and collagen response to firm and strengthen the skin. Procedures are generally quick to perform taking under an hour to complete with only minimal risk of swelling and bruising.
Which areas can be treated with PDO threads?
- Brow lift
- Cheek, mid face, jawline lift
- Nasolabial folds, marionettes lines
- Under chin and side of neck skin tightening
- Under eye area
- Skin tightening and rejuvenation on various areas of the face and body
What happens to the thread under the skin?
The PDO thread stays under the skin for about 6 months and then simply dissolves away over a period of months. The effect of the thread is maintained after this point by the collagen and fibrous response that is induced in the skin.
Will I look weird or abnormal?
PDO threads produce some of the most natural and pleasing results in aesthetics and once any initial swelling or bruising subsides your face will look brighter, refreshed and a better version of yourself
How do PDO threads lift sagging skin.
The preferred PDO thread for lifting is the Nfinder’s NFix which has micro punched recessed areas manufactured into the side of the thread. These recesses hold the skin tightly and allow for strong and reliable tissue fixation.
Comparison with Silhouette Soft
PDO threads give a significant lift with the initial procedure and further gentle lifting with the collagenesis response over the following months. This contrasts to the silhouette lift where the initial lift may look more dramatic but therein lies the problem with silhouette namely a much higher risk of side effects including persistent puckering, significant pain, facial swelling, abnormal facial sensation, palpable threads and the risk of failure. Most of these side effects result from placing the tissue under too much initial tension.
PDO thread treatments are more adaptable than the silhouette treatment and this ‘customised’ approach to facial lifting and rejuvenation allows for much better outcomes and higher levels of patient satisfaction.
What is a “Fox eye” lift?
Although we get multiple requests for the fox eye lift this is not a procedure that we encourage. We believe passionately that aesthetic procedures should help enhance someone’s appearance and not distort the look of the face to the point where people pass comment.
